These Tahitian girls have the best seats in
the house, watching the men in action during round two.

Joel Parkinson (Gold Coast,
Aus) racked up some solid tube rides to win his opening round
heat ahead of wildcard Hira Teriinatoofa (Tah) and Marcelo
Nunes (Brz).

Defending Billabong Pro champ Kelly Slater
(USA) snatched the few good waves that rolled through during
his heat to take a win and advance to round 3.

Trialist Danny Fuller (Haw) posted a strong
win ahead of Mick Fanning (Aus) and Adriano De Souza (Brz)
to advance to round 3.

A little crunch time for Aussie Troy Brooks.

Hira Terinatoofa (pictured) will join fellow
Tahitians Manoa Drollet and Heiarii Williams in round three.
Terinatoofa eliminated Phillip MacDonald in round two.

Irons picture perfect in round two of the Billabong Pro.

Joel Parkinson (Gold Coast, Aus) was taken
out by Tahitian wildcard Hira Teriinatoofa in round 3.

Despite a strong performance from Tahitian
wildcard Heiarii Williams, defending Billabong Pro champ Kelly
Slater (USA) claimed victory in one of the highest scoring
heats of the event to date.

Mark Occhilupo (Gold Coast, Aus) was narrowly
beaten by Tim Reyes (USA) in round 3 of the Billabong Pro
Tahiti.

Even massive wipeouts cannot stop Kelly Slater’s
march to victory.

Wildcard Danny Fuller (Haw) scored a sensational
upset when he eliminated Taj Burrow in round 3. Fuller advanced
to round 4 where he will face Darren O’Rafferty. (Ed.
note: Fuller is on a Quad-fin board)

Bobby Martinez (Santa Barbara, CA, USA) continued
his superb form with a round 3 heat win. Martinez took down
fellow rookie Jarrad Howse (Aus) to advance to round 4 where
he will face CJ Hobgood (Florida, USA).

Tahitian wildcard Hira Teriinatoofa has taken
down some big names on his way to the quarterfinals, including
Mick Fanning, Cory Lopez & Joel Parkinson.

Freddy P proved invincible in two meter perfection
at Teahupoo, when he defeated Brazil’s Paulo Mauro with
an excellent 8.00 and 9.27, cementing his spot in round four.

Brazil’s Victor Ribas finished equal
17th at this year’s Billabong Pro Tahiti when he was
ousted by a fiery CJ Hobgood in round three.

Pier Talk
As East Central Florida slides into its typical flat summer regime,
I reflect back on the surf we have had and will get. The winter
was lacking in overall wave quantity and the spring had a few quality
days, but now looking head-on towards possibly a two-to-three month
flat spell and I’m starting to get itchy.
It’s no wonder why Floridians travel so much to find good
surf. We have to endure so much up and downs (mostly downs) that
getting away for a summer surf trip alleviates the pain somewhat.
However, going to exotic places and coming back to Florida and it
makes it doubly painful if we suffer another wave drought summer.
Most people, and especially homeowners, dread Hurricane season.
But, for Floridian surfers, it offers hope that those exotic waves
will grace our shore after sitting through the long summer doldrums.
Hurricane season is only three weeks away and although it doesn’t
guarantee surf it does give us a glimmer of hope!
Here’s hoping that the Hurricanes of 2006 stay offshore and
pump in great surf!
