Pro-Surf Ramblings

After Kelly Slater won his 7th World Title Last week he came home to Cocoa Beach. On Saturday, the City of Cocoa Beach is having a celebration for Kelly.

"Tony Sasso, our beloved Vice Mayor and Executive Director of the Cocoa Beach Surf Museum and Executive Director of the Surfing Hall of Fame, called me and said there will be a reception at the Cocoa Beach City Hall Parking lot on Saturday from 12-2 to celebrate Kelly’s 7th world WCT title. This near impossible feat reflects well on Cocoa Beach and Kelly Slater, (The best Surfer I have ever seen.) As you know Kelly has been a great supporter of the NKF, as have Sean and Steven. And he will be able to hear directly from us all on Saturday. Let’s all come out and congratulate Kelly and support this great Champion." ~Rich (Ricardo) Salick

Also, Kelly Slater had his surfing shorts retired by Cocoa Beach High School. This is pretty neat thing for a school to do. Similar to a football jersey number getting retired but it is a surfer's baggies.

Also, photographer Don Eggert took a few photos from both the Cocoa Beach School event and from an informal party. Below are his photos with captions.

Kelly makes a lot of happy people today at CBHS. Kelly was the guest of honor as his baggies were retired this day.

Kelly's banner has been fixed to show the new 7th time ASP Surfing Champion!

Drew along with AD Mike G. present Kelly with his baggies and other items that were retired on this day at CBHS.

Sean O'hare(Sean O'hare Web Page) gives a great intro for the 7th time world champ!!!

Kelly gives all the students some great advice.

This went on for some time today. Students were getting everything auto'd from shoes, bills, I even saw a pizza box come through the line.

Oh yea, even a guitar lesson from Kelly.

Kelly went all out for his old school today and even made it to the library!!!

"I got the invite of a lifetime, or at least it was a blast for me. I got the call to come and honor Kelly Slater as he came home with the World Surfing Cup or trophy. The champange flowed from the cup for everyone on hand! The only brother not on hand was Sean as he was surfing in Barbados. Fun was had by all and it was great to be a part of the welcome home Kelly party. Kelly once again thank you for letting me be a part of your special night." ~Don Eggert

We Are Water Happenings

Not much went on in the web building department this week. Surf has been semi-good this past week which takes up a lot of my time. It’s not easy being me! (Sarcasm).

Logjammer’s Wild As The Sea article has had pretty good feedback. It is an interesting introspective on the relation of music and surfing have together. Drifting by logjammer Wild As The Sea

Thanks for the recent e-mails of late. They are encouraging. I have had a couple people submit articles for We Are Water to publish. I will get those out soon. One is a surfing flashback and also another about the history of Surf Music.

I’m thinking of having a surf history section on We Are Water. Similar to the great site of Legendary Surfers but with a East Coast slant to it. This is still in the brainstorming stage (like everything else!) Legendary Surfers Main Home Page

Speaking of Surf Music, I recently heard an interview on an Orlando Rock station with the musician Gary Hoey. Hoey was the guitarist in the Endless Summer II (Endless Summer II Info) Soundtrack. He mentioned he was in town for a local concert and is releasing a Surf Music CD called Monster Surf. I haven’t heard it but I do know Gary Hoey is an excellent guitarist. Check it out: (Gary Hoey Home Page)

We Are Water’s hit counter is averaging 200 people a day looking at the site. Most of the hits are coming from the 2ndlight.com front page. Who says the internet is a bad way to advertise? (more sarcasm). I think the internet is pretty much an acceptable way for companies to advertise. I do remember a few years back and how the internet was frowned upon. Remember the Dot-Com Bubble Crash? That was just a speed-bump and surfing the internet never really went away, it has just formed into this great swell to surf on!

Well, the real surf is up and the tide is lowering, gotta get off this Internet Matrix (Soapbox) and get out in the water…

(Just as a side note, I can remember when the word internet did not show up in MS-Word spell checker!)
