About We Are Water

Fresh Friday September 23rd 2005
Slater, Slater, Slater, Slater, Slater, Slater, and Slater. (Say that 7 times really fast...)

Hold the press, Slater looks to rewrite the History books! Cocoa Beach’s prodigal son looks to win his 7th World title if he can win the French contest starting this weekend! What makes this comeback special is that it breaks up the current World Champion hopes of winning 4 titles in a row. Andy Irons must win the next three contest if he has a chance to win 4 in a row and catch Slater. But, that is moot if Kelly can get first place in the French contest. Pro-surfing history is unfolding and we get to see it live on the internet with the ASP’s great coverage at their site http://aspworldtour.com/

Some people don’t like competitive surfing and I can understand that, however, we are talking about a Cocoa Beach native and East Coast Surfing Ambassador. We East Coasters stand a little prouder with the success of Kelly Slater! We Are Water congratulations Kelly Slater and his soon to be record breaking 7th World Title!

Just last week, Kelly Slater put another feather in his cap by winning the Trestle’s contest. On to France for the next one! An interesting tidbit is that while Lance Armstrong was winning his 7th Tour de France, Kelly was keeping up with his ratings while surfing in South Africa. Maybe this will inspire Kelly Slater to win his 7th in France as well! Who knows? But, I bet the other surfers, and especially Andy Irons won’t go down easy!

Local Yocal News

East Coast of Florida has really been enjoying consistent surf this month. Hurricane Ophelia along with Nate kept us abundant in the wave department and there are a lot of smiles with sore muscles out there!

Storm Trifecta for East Coast

Hurricane Rita also pushed up swell and is currently looking to hit Texas on Saturday. We Are Water encourages people to do what they can to help the suffering taking place in the aftermath from these storms. Although as surfers we reap the benefits from swells these storms produce, somewhere down the road people get their lives devastated. We should all help in the recovery. Hopefully Rita is not as bad as Katrina and does little damage. Currently on the news the New Orleans Levees have been breached again! Donate to the Red Cross or any other relief organization. Also, support the local Katrina donation fund drives taking throughout the community. Here is a link to one helpful organization.

We Are Water Happenings

Bill Burbage submitted some great photos of his recent photo trip to Indonesia. He spent two weeks on a boat and searched out some great breaks. He also brought along a couple new cameras he recently bought. Thanks Bill for the photos! They are really good! Link to Photo-journal:

The We Are Water website is crawling along. I’ve got a bunch of articles I’m looking to publish next week. Time is the main factor in doing this as with all the surf we have had, its hard to concentrate on webmastering! So, if I skip a Fresh Friday, rest assured I’ve Gone Surfing instead!
