Pro Surf Ramblings

Mick Fanning won the WCT contest at J-bay last week. The shift in the World Championship ratings also are interesting. Next contest is September 12-16 at Trestles, California.

Check out the articles, photos, and video here: http://www.billabongpro.com/jbay06/

The small waves of previous days were forgotten as the final showdown for the Billabong Pro enjoyed cooking 6ft Supertubes.

Mick Fanning was in superb form, eliminating defending Billabong Pro champ & 7 times ASP world champ Kelly Slater in the semi finals.

Taj Burrow (WA, Aus) moved into second place on the ASP WCT ratings after he finished runner up in the Billabong Pro.

Taj Burrow (Aus) played a focused game throughout the Billabong Pro coming up against fellow Australian Mick Fanning in the final. Fanning led the charge leaving Burrow to settle for second placing.

A trip to Jbay is never complete without a day spent on safari at the nearby game parks.

New Board Stoke

There is nothing else that can get the juices flowing like a new board. Last week I picked up my new Quad fin board and now I can’t wait to get it out on some real waves. Yesterday, I was so desperate that I just paddled around in the flat shorepound just to get some paddling exercise. It’s like I’m a grom and I’m all excited to surf again. My eight year old son, Logan, got a new board also! He isn’t all that into surfing and isn’t too confident in the water, but…it’s a start. The past summertime flat spell has been a good time to get the beginners out there. Now while I’m sitting on a freshly waxed stick…bring on the Hurricane Swells!

Last Fresh Friday (July 21 Fresh Friday ) article I printed the start of a What kind of surfer are you survey introduction. I was planning on publishing part two of it…but, ran out of time. I’m the King of Procastination and when these Fresh Fridays come out I’m all ready behind on everything else. Oh well…look for it next week.

Thanks to Bruce Grimes (http://www.thesurfgroup.net/ ) for shaping and painting a beautiful board. Pre-wax photo.

Quad-fin rides like a twin-fin yet won't slide out thus giving you drive in your turns.

Website development has been slow. I still need to get the Walt Barnes Interview out along with a ton of other stuff. Sorry for the delay, but in good time the site will get worked out.

Fresh Friday out…gone surfing…on my new board!
