The Today Show on NBC was interviewing the U.S. Snowboard team this morning while I wrote this and I just have to sit back and applaud. Snowboarders seem to have the same disposition as Surfers. Laid back yet radical, semi-humble, and just out to have a good time. I've turned into a snowboarding fan the past few years from participating and viewing the sport. Snowboarding and Surfing are very similar in some regards and opposite in others. The Medium is of course different, solid versus a liquid, but the board and mentality of the two are very close. I attended the 2002 Olympics in Utah and got to witness the first ever half-Pipe event in the Olympics. In my opinion, snowboarding has saved the Olympics. The other sports are okay to watch, but Snowboarding has put the thrill back into the Olympics! The 2006 Olympics starts today in Torino, Italy. Check out the Snowboarding action and root on the U.S. Snowboarders! We swept the medals in Utah and look to do it again this year. Opening ceremony is tonight. I’ve been snowboarding for the past five years and although I’m strictly a novice at it, it is very thrilling and I find it very similar to surfing…but on frozen water! It also makes for a great spectator sport as the spins and tricks these guys and gals do are completely insane! Check out this New Snowboarding movie called First Descent: Here is the live schedule for all the 2006 Snowboarding events: Day 2 : Sunday, February 12 Day 3 : Monday, February 13 Day 6 : Thursday, February 16 Day 7 : Friday, February 17 Day 12 : Wednesday, February 22 Day 13 : Thursday, February 23 *The time in Torino is six hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST). Nice Looking Wave!
The Drop In looks easy enough!
We Are Water Happenings No new articles have been published on We Are Water the past two weeks. However, there is a couple on the queue ready to go. I’ve been busy busting out home projects while the surf has been cold and miserable. I caught a fun day down in South Florida last month and a couple of weeks ago there was some fun surf but basically its been a good time to do other projects. This winter swell season has been below par so far. But, doing the Honey Doos and collecting Kitchen Passes will help when the surf finally does return. Look for future articles next week and enjoy the 2006 Winter Olympics. Maybe one day surfing will be an Olympic Sport! Until then, Gone Surfing, er…house painting. Dave Reid Back
